What is it about pond pumps?

Posted in : Pond Pumps

Note : I don't sell pond pumps! If you're looking for a pond pump then visit the Pond Pumps section of my mates online aquatics shop ;).

Why do people buy ponds pumps? ..... before "all y'all" (thanks [stk] for that Redneck term ;)) start sending me a million emails saying "for PONDS you tit, what else is a POND PUMP for" and its multitude of variations, what I mean is, why do people who don't have a pond buy a bloody POND PUMP?

If you're one of those people who has bought a pond pump who doesn't a) own a pond, b) isn't giving it as a present to somebody who does own a pond, and c) never intends to have a pond, then I wanna hear from you ..... no, really, I do :|

Of course, my curiosity about pond pump owning pondless people has absolutley nothing to do with anything, it's just ...... well, there's only so many interesting ways you can blog about ponds pumps, and I'm still not number one in google (uk) ...... so I just have to make shit up.

At least it beats all your normal spam for viagra , and cheap rolxes and nokia phones ( if ever any of you wants one, I know a spammer that sells them? :|), and it almost has a purpose ...... almost.

Anway, have fun,

Aw fer cripes sake dude. People with ponds don't need pond pumps cuz the pond takes care of itself. In other words, the natural forces that created the pond will take care of any pumping of the pond that may be required. You buy a pond pump when you ain't got a pond but think you should have a pond and by god you're going to have one. Next you dig a big giant hole and fill it with water. When all the water drains out you figure out you gotta put a liner in, so you do, and again fill it with water. Now the 'pond' becomes a stagnant pool of mucky gross slimy things, so you figure this would be a great place to have a pump so's you can pump out the stagnant slime and add fresh water as need be.

I think.

I've never actually pumped a pond okay? Sometimes when I'm willing to reveal my deepest fantasies I let on that I wish I had a pond that didn't need pumping, but even then I'd get a pond pump just to say "oh look at my groovy new pond pump - isn't it rather smashing?" to which all others would say "wtf you be needin a pond pump for when you aint got no pond worth pumpin?"

I think...

Damn, I never looked at it that way before.

So, what you're saying is that I should first invest in a shovel and dig a bloody big hole? Hmmmmm, I've not got a big garden so I guess you mean I should dig up the road outside the house.

I think...

I probably won't need to go to much effort to fill it up, what with the amount of free water that our wonderful weather provides. With this in mind, I'd imagine it would also keep the pond filled up faster than it could drain, so I could probably forget about buying a liner as well. Cool, that'll save me a few quid. Of course, with the water turning over faster than a Mac Donalds staff rota I probably wouldn't have any slimy water to pump out, so do I, even with a pond, need a pond pump at all ?

Damn, maybe pond pumps really are for people who don't own a pond!

I think...

Pond pumps help to recirculate stagnant water (which are breeding grounds for mosquitos). You also need a pond pump if you have fish, because you will need to aerate the water. A pond pump is also a necessity if you want to have a waterfall, fountain, or spitter in your pond.

Great comment ... it's a shame I accidentally killed guest links when I redid my comments layout, before that your link to so you want to install backyard pond page would have been visible .... guess I need to rectify that ;)
