Need helping adding a blogrum?

Help with blogrum

Hi Yabba,

I'm interested in using your blogrum plugin, and am a bit confused. Do the codes on your 'how to add a blogrum' post make up the plugin, or is there a file to download? And if so, where can I find it?

Thanks,

Na3

Hi na3,
The codes in the "how to" are more to do with skin changes than anything else. You can grab the latest version of the blogrum & profiles plugins from my credits page http://waffleson.co.uk/2007/10/credits

I believe that Tilqi is in the middle of making a blogrum skin for public release but I don't know if he's finished it yet.

Thanks; I had checked AM before but couldn't find the plugin. I'll email them and see if it's still available. Then I'll come back and have a look at the skin stuff here.

Cheers,

Na3

Hi na3,

The plugins never been released on AM, the only place you can download it is from my credits page ( just click the download icon ) ;)

Ok, I have everything loaded and am starting to test how the blogrums work. I've got one set up, and posted to it, and am getting this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' in /public_html/skins/my_skin/_blogrum.feedback.inc.php on line 160

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Na3

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, I've been a smidge busy battering my head against magento.

If you like I can zip up the files I use here and email them to you

That's ok - I've had the time, so I'm plowing through. Haven't properly looked at the error myself yet.

Thanks, the files would be great; at least then I could have something to compare to.

If you want to check out what it's looking like so far, I've got a blogrum set up at

Not a bad start but you might like to look at it in a higher res ;)

You can grab the whole of my blog skin here ( tacky3.zip ), you won't want most of it but it should help.

Note : The skin is coded for nested comments and extended profiles, so you may wish to download those plugins as well ( both are available from my credits page )

Thanks so much!

Yeah, I'm going to download the extended profiles one. Not sure about nested comments just yet; got to find that feedback problem first!

Cheers,

Na

You should just be able to use the feedback file from my skin without problems ;)

Thanks; I've now added the profile plugin. I have a weird error though. Everything was fine and I was just uploading a couple of avatar images. I logged in as a test blogrum member and went to the AM profile tab, and got this error:

Requested User from T_users without ID!

Tried searching on b2evo forums, but can't seem to find an answer. Is this something to do with how you set the permissions for groups/users?

Thanks,

Na

I assume you mean in the profile in admin?

I'll have to register so I can see what happens ;)

Yes, in the admin. I've got a test account set up with no admin abilities... just sign in as

test2
password test2

Do you need to have higher access to check?

Thanks!

Just a quick note to say I've fixed the feedback error.

I just had a play in your admin, you only get the error if you use the "evo" admin skin ( it works in legacy and chicago ) ... I'll have a play with the plugin code and see if I can find what caues it ;)

Hmm, that's good and bad: I've been getting random errors depending on which skin I'm using as a blogrum member. If I use chicago, the preview and save buttons don't work when adding a post.

The only blogrum member you should have is the owner of the blogrum blogs. All the rest should be members of a different group that has posting rights for the relevant blogrums.

The blogrum member isn't intended to be used as a normal member/group, it's just used so that the plugin can distinguish a blogrum from a blog when it starts playing with posts.

Oh... I see. I had set up the owner and the member as the same group
So moving the member into another group should fix all the problems?

I've no idea if it'll fix your problem, I just know that I don't have any problems on here ... and none of the other members have mentioned problems.

My groups are :

Blogrums -> 1 member "blogrum user" : This member is the "owner" of all of the blogrums
Blogrum Members -> several members : This group has posting/commenting rights on all of the blogrums here
Members -> several members : This group has posting/commenting rights on all of the blogrums and a few other permissions on the rest of the blogs that make up my web

Hmmm... I changed the member to a new group, didn't solve it. Tried changing admin skins, but it didn't solve it; and then tried changing the skin again, and it worked.

Maybe I need to delete the cache. (I'm also using Firefox 3, which means the legacy skin won't work)

Damn, so now you're limited to just chicago :P

I'll have a play when I get a free moment and see if I can get it working in the evo skin as well ... although I'm buggered if I can think of why it would fail :p

I'm *pretty* sure you can cure the legacy skin for FF3 by adding quotes around the css @includes stuff

It's very weird. I got it to work on evo and on chicago, but now when I logged in to check it again (on chicago) it wouldn't work. I had to flip to evo, and flip back to chicago again...

It seems when I log in I get the error; once I change the skin, it works again. Log out and back in again, and it comes back with the error.

As for the FF thing, yeah I haven't gotten around to fixing that yet. Figured I could just use one of the other skins until I have a moment to do it.

You might like to try disabling the tinymce plugin, I get a couple of javascript errors from it which *may* be causing your problem ;)

I'm still getting a js error because of tinymce, could you possibly email me an admin level login ( or pm me via the forums ) ?

I've created my group and my user, installed blogrum (and profile) plugins, created my blog.

I've inserted the first block of code goes into index.main.php in my skin folder above the // -------------- MAIN CONTENT TEMPLATE INCLUDED HERE (Based on $disp) -------------- etc sequence. Now a new comment serves to put a posting back to the top of the list, but otherwise display & function seem unchanged.

I'm pretty sure your instructions are to create multiple new files with the remaining blocks of code, named as you indicate, and place them into the skin folder. Is that correct? And would you be willing to make your skin files available to me as you did for na3? (the tacky3.zip link above returns a 404 error)

I am, by the way, viewing your instructions on an antique copy of Netscape (7.2) because N (and my still more antique Explorer 5.2/Mac) are the only ones of my browsers that wrap the lines on the instructions page to fit on the screen--both Safari 3.1.2 and Firefox 3.0.5 (both current or nearly so) extend the text box far FAR F - A - R beyond the right-hand edge of my 1280 MacBook screen.... Netscape's display keeps crinkling up when I try to highlight multiple lines--it's just not made for the MacBook.

Thanks, ¥åßßå--zip link worked fine this time.

The "how to make a blogrum" is the ONLY part of your site (that I have found) that doesn't wrap inside my browser screen (and re-wrap with resizing). So the problem seems pretty localized.
