Bimbledon 2006 - The countdown begins

Posted in : In the field, Pond Pumps

Damn, I can almost see the end of winter, complete with snow this year as well ...... which confused the rain a tad, it kinda didn't know where to land.... so we gave it directions to France. Anyway, today was the first day of the year that I bimbled down to the field, how cool???? ..... well, a tad parky actually, I didn't quite break out my shorts for the occasion ..... although, being an optomist, I took them with me.

I muttered 'aaa, aaa, aaa, aaa' in my head for half of the walk there, and, having bought some new Triple-A batteries for my camcorder/photo thing, I bimbled, without muttering, for the rest of the way. You see, I've decided that pond pumps is far to exherting a search term for me to come top of google for, so I'm going to aim for getting to the top for the term "crap photographer" ...... I'm pretty sure it'll only take a few days ...... as these pictures show.

Whilst I've been recuperating from the effort of last years (world championship winning) bimbling, my mate Barry (remember him? He owns that Online Fish Shop ..... which is top of google for POND PUMPS :|).....anyway, Barry's managed to do a tad of work .... although I'm convinced that it's Wendy that does the hard bits...... anyway, Barry's done a tad. He's filled the bench with a few hundred tubers and kept them all snug and warm, and is currently nursing 700+ cuttings ...... oh yeah, and he's also got a couple of hundred slammed in pots already .

Damn .... glad it was to cold to bimble, it looks like it might have taken a tad of effort.

This year, I'm going to really, really, really try to keep a (crap) photo journal of the potting shed, the little greenhouse and the main greenhouse, although I'm off to a bad start because I don't have any of the small greenhouse .......ahhh well, I'm sure I'll improve.

So, what did I manage to achieve today, and what are my goals for the week? ...... Well, in my defense, there was only a very small bimble-window .... so I managed to pull a few weeds out, if you look at the photos you can see that there's miles, urm ... acres, ahh ...... one or two. The rest of the week I'm going to attempt to steralise the ground ..... apparently it involves a cattleprod, a leather mask and a dark room ........ urm, wrong dream ...... urm, anyway, apparently it takes weeds to a darker place ..... according to Snapper :|

And then I get a month off, I like to break myself in slowly, makes all the difference in the end (ask Scott, who's a world champion tiler :|). I'm sure I'll manage to keep myself occupied in the meantime (lol, what with a shedload of webwork to squeeze in before the sun comes out).

Once again this year we've got a fair few new varieties, and we've ditched some of the ones that we grew last year. As soon as I get the full line up and plans for the beds I'll share them here ...... yeah I know, thrilling or what ...... wait until you see the end result ;) We're also going to moving some of the dahlias around and trying them in new positions, as well as trying different feeding schemes and all sorts of other tecnical stuff like that.

I've still not managed to convince Barry that we really need to defend our world champions title in Canada in 3 years. Not that I'm worried, I've got a whole season to work on him, I'm sure he'll see the sense in sending me to Canada for 6 months to look after the dahlias so we can enter ....... yeah, course he will ...... if not, then I've still got 3 years to rectify his thinking.

When I get a chance, I'll create a section of my blog for all the crap photos I take of the field ...... damn, bet yer really glad I got a digicam thing huh? ..... the bright news is, that'll mean I'll include less in each post, so I won't have to waffle on like this just to make sure that there's enough text to wrap round all the images.

Talking of waffling, for those of you who are twisted enough to link to/bookmark my blog or feeds, you might like to note that I've now moved it to it's permenant home (http://www.innervisions.org.uk/babbles/), although the old url also works (for now).

Well, I've rabbited long enough for the text to wrap round all the pictures, so I'll leave yah in peace again.

Have fun,
¥
